Dan Sidley is the founder of Yorkshire Swan Rescue and gave a very interesting talk about the brilliant work they carry out treating swans that have come to harm at our AGM a few years ago. It is a totally voluntary organisation and the Friends make an annual contribution to them, in recognition of the valuable work Dan does at Ulley.
Recently he had to deal with a swan that had swallowed some fishing line with hooks and weights and this involved taking the swan back to his base in Selby and operating to remove the line caught in the swan’s throat. Happily the swan made a full recovery but without Dan it would have surely died!
