This report is from Dan Sidley from Yorkshire Swan Rescue, published on their website.

This beautiful pair of swans – pictured here in 2024 recovering in our care with their cygnets – reigned over the waters of Ulley Country Park since 2017. In that time, they successfully raised countless numbers of cygnets, and became a beloved part of their local community.
In this time, we supported both swans – affectionately known as Tyson and Princess – along with their young, whenever we were called upon. Thanks to his leg identification rings, we know Tyson reached at least 24 years of age.
Sadly, Princess passed away this summer under suspicious circumstances, which was reported to the Police at the time for further investigation. Over the last couple of years, Tysons gradual age-related decline more recently became a welfare concern, and it was clear he was simply reaching the end of a long and natural life. Tyson lived out his final days here in our care, passing peacefully.
Their loss leaves a huge void for everyone who enjoyed seeing and feeding them both and their cygnets over the years. Our heartfelt thanks go to the locals who showed such unwavering care and kindness over the years, in all weathers, to support their swans.
We are also deeply grateful to everyone who has donated towards their rescue and care, and to the Friends of Ulley Park for their ongoing fundraising and support to our charity – from cafe days to contributions. We look forward to sharing an illustrated talk with your members on our continued work at your upcoming AGM.
A hopeful new chapter, in the form of a new bonded pair of swans, who have now taken to the reservoir. It is hoped the new arrivals will stay, and begin a family of their own come the spring ??
